iPAQ is the sub-brand for Compaq's innovative line of Internet devices. In 2000, Compaq announced its 'everything to the Internet' initiative and launched what is widely considered the sexiest product it's ever made: the iPAQ Pocket PC.

This was a dream gig: I was the lead copywriter, working with great people, and writing for a cool product. Deliver-ables included packaging, an iPAQ Web site, a Flash demo, a brochure kit, a kit for the global sales force, and promo items like beer mats.

Although scrapped near completion, I produced copy for an iPAQ Web site that provided detailed information about products, accessories and wireless solutions available to corporate users.

I wrote headlines for a series of beer mats. These were an unexpected promo item from Compaq and a great way to convey the new style of iPAQ.

The witty new tone I introduced for the Pocket PC launch helped Compaq launch the leading product in a category shared by HP, Sony, Casio and others.

This tone was carried into the entire line of iPAQ products and has helped position Compaq uniquely in the field of Internet devices. >>

I was able to use a prototype Pocket PC for about a week before working with a German design firm to create the architecture and copy for an interactive Flash demo. The tone of the brochure was carried through to this piece while providing much more product detail.
I worked with the Compaq Design Center to produce a brochure kit for the launch. A series of eight folding cards were contained inside a jacket. Each card supported a unique selling proposition. Together they tell the whole story of the product.
